Post subject:  Rudders installed upside down

Hello, I purchased a Hobie 18 and the previous owner had installed the rudders upside down.. what I mean is the grooved part of the rudder is facing up, and when sailing is pointing away from the boat. I was wondering if this is worth fixing or if it doesn't really matter. Thanks!

Grooved part of the rudder? Not really sure what you’re talking about. Is this a “classic” Hobie 18? Can you post a pic?

This isn't my boat, just some random picture, but my rudders are literally flipped opposite the ones in this photo. So that little dip in the rudders is facing up instead of down.

Unbolt the rudders, flip them the correct way around, and re-install - easy peasy.

You’re saying they connected the rudder castings to the rudders with the bolt holes swapped? I don’t even see how that would work - doesn’t seem like the rudders would be able to lock up or down. Would love to see a picture, but definitely correct it so the rudders are installed properly.

First time I've ever heard that one.
