Hello! Never sailed a Hobie before. I've been out sailing with a friend on his Catalina 42 a number of times now, and have really enjoyed learning some of the skills needed to sail. If I had the financial position to do so, I'd probably buy my own boat, but that isn't going to happen in the foreseeable future...so I've been doing a little bit of research and I am really interested in learning how to sail a hobie cat.

I'm assuming, living in the SF Bay area, that I am positioned well to learn and practice, but I've had a hard time finding info.

Can anyone point me somewhere to start if I want to rent and/or get some instruction on how to solo?

Many thanks in advance.

The Round Treasure Island Regatta is this weekend, July 6-7, starting at the Encinal Boat Ramp in Alameda. Come visit in the morning around 9:00 AM and start bugging us. We shove off around 11:30 and return around 3:30-4:00. Go here for dates and locations of this season's regattas: http://hcana.hobieclass.com/events/

Hobie Fleet 20 (http://www.hobiefleet20.com/index.htm and Facebook) has monthly fun sails at either Lake Camanche or Woodward Reservoir until October (we just had one this last weekend) and if you make your desires well known in advance then arrangements can be made to get you on a boat.

There is not an active fleet sailing regularly on SF Bay.
