I've been searching for trap harnesses, i was wondering if there is a one size fits all adjustable style harness for various sized crew members. Also who has experience with the ball and socket bethwaite system and is it worth the 150$ a piece for the spreader bar? |

There really is no one size fits all harness, but most of them have velcro and webbing adjustments that allow them to fit a wide range of body sizes. Regarding the ball and socket system, it is really a matter of personal preference. They are safer than a traditional hook, so if you’re sailing with less experienced folks, it may be worth considering. Make sure the spreader bar is compatible with whatever harness you end up getting if you decide to go that route. There are also harness systems available with detachable hooks that can be released if they become tangled. It’s also a good idea to have a knife handy (regardless of the type of harness system) in case you need to cut someone out of their harness in an emergency. sm |
