Post subject: | Recommendations for sail repair |
My hobie 18 main is in need of a new bolt rope. I was going to attempt the repair myself, but my machine will not push through the many layers of Dacron on the ends. Has anyone had his repair made by a professional? Where? How Much? Were you happy with their work? Thanks in advance for your replies. |

Would guess that if the boltrope is bad the sail probably is too. Sail repair is mostly a local affair. I'm in the Boston Area and use Sperry sails, they do a great job. |

Thanks for your replies. I talked to chip @ Whirlwind Sails today, and he quoted me a very reasonable price. He also clearly knew more about what he was talking about than any of the others that I contacted. He seems to have quite a bit of experience with beach cat sails. He also said that for recreational use, as long as a sail has a good bolt rope on it, and no tears, you might as well use it until it falls apart in your hands. I really appreciate that kind of honesty coming from a guy that sells sails for a living. Thanks for turning me on to Whirlwind. ![]() |

I bought a couple of sails from him and found him great to deal with, so I would recommend him to any and everyone looking for a repair or not so class legal cat sail. cw |

I fully agree, Chip will work with you to give you what you want and does quality work. I recently ordered a square top main and jib from him (see new sails, H17 forum) and the sails are top notch. ![]() |
