We just acquired a Hobie Holder 12 Hull, just the hull and would like to find parts for it. or craft our own.

This is what we are in need of. I'm sure there are other things I'm missing as sailing is very new to us.

Sail
mast
Boom
Rigging
Rudder
Stabilizer. The thing that goes in the middle in the water.

We have never sailed before and know literally nothing about sailing so this will be a learning experience all around.

We are willing to go the DIY route, for making and crafting our own parts, if anyone has some links to such information.

thanks

Here's the assembly manual. DIY might be challenging with little sailing experience, since you don't really understand the systems. Look on eBay, craigslist. Maybe you can find a 12 that's got a trashed hull to salvage parts from.

Specs for Laser

I searched for Laser mast diameter and found this.

So the Laser mast is 2.5" diameter. If the mast pocket on the 12 will take that mast, life just got a lot easier for you!

So, parts from Laser, Force 5, and Zuma may work for you. I've sailed Lasers, and the 12 does look similar. I owned a Hobie Hawk 9 for a while (little sister to the 12.) Fun little boat. And I mean little!

Here's some sail information from Sailrite. They sell sails, sail kits, materials, sewing machines. All the big wide stuff for a sailboat.

Matt Miller is a goldmine!

I've bought from SLO before. Good people. Here's a sail. (I'm kind of getting into this search, if you hadn't guessed. Rather than ad posts, I just edit this one.)

SCORE! Looks like Laser stuff will work. Plus these guys seem to have parts. (Man, the interwebs is fun...)

I would look at a Laser as “potentially” having parts that may work. I use the word potentially because I don’t know for a fact whether or not this can be or ever has been done, but I have owned both boats in the past and they are very similar in many respects. There have been many many more Lasers built over the years than Holder 12’s and the Laser is still in production, so the parts are much more readily available. I would actually look at the Laser “Radial” rig. It is smaller than the standard Laser rig and probably closer to the Holder 12 size. The rudder could probably also be able to be made to work.

On the same matter as parts for an orphan sailboat, I have a sheared spring clip which is designed to keep the rudder in the gouges. I could find no replacement part. Matt Miller at Hobie could not help me. Does anyone have a solution to keep the rudder from departing from the transom when underway?

Drill a hole through one of the pintles and then insert a cotter pin through the hole to retain the rudder?

A circle clip? Do you have a good hardware store nearby? Or is it a flat spring, maybe bend one from a piece of spring steel?

I am looking for a rudder and tiller replacement for my Hobie One (ie Holder 12). I tried purchasing alternatives, like a laser rudder and it didn’t work. Anyone willing to sell theirs?

leifjensen, I have the tiller, including the extension. It's surprisingly intact, having been left outside for decades. My daggerboard is broken in half, unfortunately. You're welcome to it if you pay postage - I'm in Virginia, USA

For anyone else who happens upon this post, I also have the mast, sails, and a batten. I have the hull as well but there had been a bit of leakage at the join between top and bottom. I abandoned it in my mother's yard ages ago, and I'm not sure if it's worth a restoration attempt.

Wow, this is a really helpful thread! Thank you all. I am also looking for hobie 12 parts, specifically mainsail and maybe this will help

If anyone has a mainsail for the Holder 12 or knows where I can find one, please let me know! Would be really helpful. I just bought a holder 12 that has everything except the sail. I do see that I can buy them new for close to $500 but was wondering if anyone had a used one

I’m new to this Forum.
I’m in need of a replacement mainsail.
And/or: I would like to sell my Holder 12 and galvanized trailer. Boat, trailer and all accessories/parts (except mainsail) are in good condition.
