My father owns an old Hobie 16 that has been basically sitting on the trailer for 20 years. We have talked offhandedly about getting it lake-worthy again, but we don't know the first thing about if the fiberglass hulls might need work, ant other things (we know it needs a new sail, ropes, etc...). I'll try to post some pics, and would love some advice on how to get this project rolling. |

Step 1. Press firmly over every foot of each hull (both the sidewalls and decks) to determine if they have soft spots. If the hull flexes more than about 1/16”-1/8” or if you hear crunching sounds, the hulls are soft (delaminated). Depending on the extent of the delam, the hulls are either ok, in need of minor repair, or should be junked. Do this evaluation before spening money on anything. sm |

Whatever you estimate, it will cost twice as much and take 3 times as long. Pretty infallible rule. |
