I may be way off here....beacause few people have seems to pull it off. But I think I can make a set of beach wheels 
My question.....is there a reason that the Hobie wheels are "inboard" of the hulls, or would it work just as well on a "straight axle", and hove the tires be "outboard" of the hulls??? Thanks, Chris |

The wheels are inboard because that makes the wheels easier to store and most launch sites are narrow. The narrow wheels do make the platform less stable, but that is usually not a problem. |

Chris: Upside down cradles will ride on the front hulls of most cats with wheels between the hulls, that may be the reason they made them that way? Plus I think it flex's the axle less to be on the short length than a long length. Ever watch weight lifters lift heavy loads? The bar REALLY bends! Doug |

Hmmmmm. Never thought of that Doug . . . . even though I carry mine on the stern. I couldn't see towing my boat with the wheels on the outside. |

I have created several wheel systems. Doug is right, the bar will flex to much with the wheels on the outside. There is one design with wheels on the inside and outside. The best set I made were galvanized steel pipe with atv wheels welded to a piece of pipe that slide over the bar. No bearings, just steel on steel. Worked great but heavy as heck. IMO you should just bite the bullet and buy some cat traks, the inflated kind. You won't be sorry! |
