I'm looking to compare different options for solo sailing my hobie 16 and wondering if anyone knows the actual sail area of the mains when reefed?

The un reefed mainsail specifications are

Hobie 14
Mast Length: 6.78 m / 22′ 3″
Mainsail area 10.963 m² / 118 ft²

Hobie 16
Mast Length: 8.08m / 26' 6"
Mainsail area 13.77m² / 148.2 ft²

So I had my sails out yesterday so I thought I'm measure them

The foot of the mainsail is 2.68m. The reefing points are 1.6m up from the foot. The line across the reefing points is 2.6m so the area is more or less rectangular

2.6 x 1.6 = 4.16m² reduction

A hobie 16 mainsail is 13.77m²

Therefore a reefed mainsail is 9.61m² which is about a 30% reduction in sail area
