I purchased a Hobie 16 about a year ago and have loved using it on lakes in Arizona and Texas. But now I am moving to Hawaii and wanted to know how easy it would be to use on Ohau. From what I have heard finding parking at the beach is tough and getting a Hobie 16 from the trailer to the sand sounds like it might be tough. Do people normally store their hobie on the beach and if so where and how much does that usually cost. I would love to use her in Hawaii but if getting her into the water is going to be too difficult I will probably sell her before I leave. Any help people have would be great!

Hello friend, if you plan to sell your hobby you can contact me, I am interested, of course if you still have it in mind.

Others on this board are more knowledgeable, but I do keep a minicat 420 on the island which needs no trailer because it is inflatable. I can just set it up on an uncrowded beach and sail away if not too shallow or winds screaming offshore. Well, I briefly did this before I hurt my back, so might be open to private messages about selling it.

Anyway I have seen cats on the millionaires row along Kailua and Lanikai beach. Possibly a couple clusters in not so private areas. Maybe you can launch at boatramp at Kailua beach park but seems super crowded and not so welcoming. You can find a state web site for public boat ramps which often depict nearby beach situation. I've seen a cat use Kahana beach launch but the ramp is severely damaged and signs promise a good chance of vehicle breakin. Many places would need a motor or courage to cope with - you can review with google earth and keep in mind ene tradewinds. One forgiving area I used to sail is the airport lagoon during rare south winds, but my launch is at least temporarily engulfed with relocated homeless and a toxic muddy bottom.

Good find! I can't believe I was unaware of that hidden little pocket even tho I have launched nearby to visit the wonderful offshore disappearing sandbar. That is an area hemmed in by military zones and private no parking areas, but:

Your other finds seemed to be commercial large tourist barge cat operations.
