Examining the battens, I've found one to be spintering, but not broken, near the luff. Is it time to replace it? |

If you've got enough material left, trim the end and put a batten cap on it to eliminate the splitting. |

Duct tape. No - seriously! 1 layer around the end will hold it together and keep it from slitting further. |
