Post subject: | New Dacron Line - Parting Sheath |
Hi Matt, Have you seen or heard of this happening before? We ordered some new Spun Dacron line from Hobie for our jib sheet. We have used it for one race and three days of recreational sailing and the weirdest thing is happening. The sheath is parting and letting the core of the line slip out between the strands of sheathing. The sheath strands are still totally in tact, they have just moved enough to allow the core to squeeze out between the strands. I will post a few photos so you can see what I am talking about. Can I send it back to Hobie for replacement or is this a characteristic of the Spun Dacron line? I don't think I am doing anything out of the ordinary with the line. If it is a characteristic, I think I should use a different kind of line for the jib sheet because the core that is squeezing out is now starting to jam in the blocks. Please let me know what you think. http://www.jjds.net/hobie/dacron1.jpg http://www.jjds.net/hobie/dacron2.jpg http://www.jjds.net/hobie/dacron3.jpg Thanks, Tad |

I see no one has tried to help, I certainly have no idea what could cause the problem but I have seen it before. My suggestion is to email the manufacuter of the line as they would fer sure know what is going on. |

I have seen that happen with my lines. My thoughts are the teeth in the blocks are what causes it. I do not worry too much about it until it gets real bad then replace the sheets. I know this doesnt help you much but I do not think it is a defect in the line. Good luck and let us know if you are able to get the line replaced. |
