Post subject:  Beach launching (trolling motor?)

I have sailed Hobies a number of times, but have since built my own inflatable sailing catamaran that is of similar size to the Getaway (~5 meters in length).

I live in Israel and launch on the beach in Tel Aviv, which I find challenging to say the least. Especially since I am at times sailing solo. When I launch wave height is approximately 0.4-0.5 meters and the wind is blowing from the NW (into the shore).

I was wondering if adding a ~30lb electric trolling motor would help get me going, or is it no match for the waves/current?

Thanks

Try it and tells us how well it works.

I would try a small gas motor first. Here in the USA "Torqueedo's" are around $2500.00-$3000.00. Bad experiment if it doesn't work out

I have used a 55 pound trolling motor and had pretty good luck moving into the wind with 4 people and maybe 7+ mph wind. Agree with raisehull to try before you buy if you can! Any fishermen that might let you borrow their motor to try? A gas motor, 2 hp, will work for sure!

Lot's of "Youtube" video at "Haulover". If it works there, it will work anywhere!
