Looking for a list of the 10 most basic rules for catamaran buoy racing. I have seen them in the past. Trying to get some of the sailors on our beach interested in some buoy races and just want to start them out on the right path. Thanks |

1) Have/make fun, it's a race with friends, keep it fun 2)See rule number one when in doubt 3) Starboard tack has right of way over port tack boats 4)Windward gives way to leeward boat 5)Inside boat has room at the mark except at the start, at the start, the close hauled boat can not be forced below it's course to start (no barging) it is really an extension of #4 6)Clear ahead has right of way 7)If you foul another boat do a penalty circle turn as soon as safe to do so. If you damaged another boat, retire and render aid. ![]() 9)render aid to fellow competitors in need 10)Always check in and out with the race committee and thank them for what they do |

I was looking for a more detailed list of rules. I remember when I first started in the late 1970s there was a laminated card with 10 basic rules on it. No barging at the start, mast abeam, room at the mark etc. Hopefully Matt Miller may have some input. Thank you to those that have responded, some of the rules mentioned will be of help. |
