I just got a new squaretop Pentex main and Dacron jib for my H21SE from Chip Buck at Whirlwind Sails and they look fantastic. Nice attention to details, all the little extras I asked for, a few we never talked about, and great service. After sailing on the original Hobie mylar (good sails by the way) for years, this is going to be quite a treat. |

I too am a Whilwind sail owner, I bought a 14 main 6 batten for beating around in so as to not degrogate my racing main any further than necessary. I think that it is a wonderfully put together and beautiful sail. I went with white, with one green panel near the top (old school McKibben looking) with the number 1701 (Star Trek reference) I also bought a 16 jib I like alot as well. Chip is a guy you can trust and the value is there. Have fun on the 21 Dr. Phil. BTW, where in Mass do you hail from? cw |

Uncle with Cape House, sigh! We sail a bit downcape in Wellfleet but we've been checking out Harker's Island, North Carolina for a trip. Wife wants to charter a big boat in the Carribean in the winter, she has no experience with monoslugs though. There are some F-31's in Florida that look good for charter. |

Beachboy, please post a photo when you get a picture of your new sails. I'm taking my H17Sport (with new sails) up to Priest Lake Id for a week of sailing over July 4th. A note about your new sails, you might want to check out the screws on your batten pocket protectors. The screws on mine were a little long (1/8 inch) and were dinging the mast. Nothing a dremel and 10 minutes couldn't fix.

I'll get some pics ASAP. I got the battens fitted yesterday, gotta run the jib up the headstay and make sure she furls pproperly, then get the telltales on. How do batten pockets ever contact the mast? I see your point, fundamentally it's not a good idea to have screws hanging out, I will grind them down but I'm trying to see a scenario where the sail comes that far around the mast . |

Beachboy, I'm not sure when it happened either, but the dings in my mast are testiment that it did. At times I sail in some pretty heavy conditions at Wallula Gap on the Columbia River, 20-35 mph winds and 3-4+ waves/chop and my best guess is that the dings came from some pretty scary jibes in rough waters. As far as wind tail placement, I kept to the same basic locations that I used on my standard main ~ 1 ft in from the luff.
