Post subject:  Looking to practice in the Seattle area

Hello,
I live in the Seattle area and I recently purchased an 82 Hobie 16 that I have been fixing up and learning how to sail it. I have a little background in small monohull sailing with the Renton Sailing Club and I have watched endless youtube videos on every hobie cat topic I have a question about and overall I am becoming a bit more comfortable with sailing it. I have gotten quite confident in 6-8 knots wind but I'm finding that breaking into the 10+ knots to be a little hairy and I'd really like to gain some confidence. If anyone is interested in having a second hand on their boat for racing or leisure, or wants to head out with me on my boat in exchange for a few tips they can provide me, I'd be very grateful!
Feel free to shoot me a DM and I can provide you with my contact info.

-Thalweg.

I sent a link to your post to a catsailing friend in Seattle. He may PM you. Would recommend that you also contact the Seattle Fleet (95) Rep. They should be able to get you in touch with other sailors in the area.

While you wait....go to You Tube and punch in Joyrider TV.
Joe Bennett's videos are an amazing resource.

Keep safe

Joyrider TV has been such a tremendous asset! He has basically singlehandedly taught me how to rig and sail my boat haha. If you are out there Joe, then thanks!
Jerome, thanks for the referal! I'll also reach out to the person noted for Seattle's hobie fleet.

Thanks.

Hi thalweg,

FYI, you should email [email protected] to get in touch with Division 4 which covers the PNW area for Hobie sailing/racing. Jere Bott is listed for Fleet 95, but I'm not sure if he is still supposed to listed as the contact.

Emailing Division 4 can get you added to our Google group where we mostly coordinate regattas, but that will get you in touch with all the best experience the PNW has to offer for Hobie sailing. I think you can also message the Division 4 facebook page.

I am local to Seattle (I'm the friend rattle 'n hum mentioned), and I'll try to send you a PM to see if I can help.

Hi, I'd love to crew on your 16. That was my first boat and i had a blast sailing that mostly down in the warm waters of mexico. I now have an 18 but that is stored in Arizona as i have no place to keep it in seattle. But i've sailed lots of Hobies and have no problem sailing in 15+ knot winds. Still have a little time this summer!
