After sailing my hobie18, the right hull always lets a puff of air when removing the drain plug. I don't think the hull is taking on water but hobie says it's not a good sign to hear this noise but without explaning how to fix this. What should I do to prevent this ? I was thinking maybe adding a relief vent on the lid of the storage hole ? Otherwise could it be that water slowly gets in and compresses the air ? |

Your hulls are very well sealed I would think. When you launch, the boat likely goes negative pressure due to the cool water cooling the hulls. As you exit the water, the hulls warm and air expands. You can drill a VERY small hole in the hatch plate to help equalize these pressure changes. The original Hobie 18 had rope pulls tied through holes in the hatches. Those acted as vents. |
