Is 17 MPH winds and 23mph gust too much for a hobie 16? I am new and the most wind I have seen so far on my lake is 8-10. Is 17mph wind and gust to 23mph too much for a me? |

Honestly, that's when it reaaally gets fun! ![]() But if you're new, then I'd wait before venturing out in the big winds. Perhaps you can tag along with a more experienced sailor to get a feel for the boat in higher winds. Have fun!! |

If you're asking it probably is. Get some experience, learn how to detune the boat (mast rake, travel out, down haul, body position) and then give it a shot. You will have fun. |

The boat can handle the wind, but can you? I second Hobie 1616's advice. I'd say when the winds get to 25 sustained it's time to get off the water, because then it comes more of a struggle than fun. However, sailing in winds that strong will give you something to talk about. |

Do what you are comfortable with. go out with a more experienced sailor or work your way up to the heavier air. I have found that strong, sustained winds without the gusts are great. It's the gusts that will get you into trouble. |
