Post subject:  Sail numbers database?

Hi, I was wondering if there is a database for sail numbers one could use to identify the sails.

I bought my 1987 H16 used and has had several owners and currently sail with the original sails. It only has 5 digits no letters to identify its country.

Any source for listings ??

thanks!

My sail number is 11. The boat is an 89 model signature edition with original sails. I saw a chart with Hobie sail colors once. Not sure where I saw the chart but the colors of my sails indicated it was from the Corpus Christi nationals if I am not mistaken.

Well Im not trying to figure out the color design combination but instead the sail number that identifies the boat and owner.
This number is assigned by the national sailing association/commitee or some similar organization to ensure there are no two sail numbers alike.
They ususaly have a three letter combination before the numbers to ID the country of port. Mine only has 5 digits (90275) no letters..

anyone?

There is no database of sail numbers and owners.

The number on the sail is the serial number of the sail, nothing more. It has nothing to do with the hull number.

Some sails (like #11), were made for special events and have different numbers.

So lets say I order a new all white main sail for my H16.... It will have numbers right? How and who assigns them?

thanks!

Hobie Cat USA assigns sail numbers for all new sails.

You can have one made with the number of your choice for $50.00 additional cost.

We do not track which colors or years used which numbers. We simply use the next available number.

So if I choose my own numbers for the 50$,,, how does hobie ensure that the number I choose isnt in use already on another boat?

The same is true for all sail lofts....they assign a number on their own , or do they take numbers from a national/international list of numbers not yet used?

No other loft makes (race legal) Hobie sails. (Hobie USA provides a number range to Hobie Cat Europe for their sails).

Custom numbers are not guaranteed to be un-duplicated... somewhere in the world.
