I have volunteered to teach my friends son how to sail. I am trying to find a basic learn to sail book for him. I had one for the CYA white sail program but can't find it online anywhere. Can anyone suggest a very basic learn to sail book. It shouldn't be racing at this point. It should be basic terms, parts of the boat etc. I don't think it should focus on Cats either ... Sailing in general would be better for him. Thanks |

I am just finishing up reading "Sailing for Dummies". It provides good broad coverage of the subject matter. I would definitely recommend it. |

I was learning with Sailing Fundamentals (ISBN 0743273087 from ASA. Of course, most valuable was instruction from my teacher, but this book provided me with some bed time reading and I could go over some of what I heard and learnt the day before once again. Also I must add that there were some reference mistakes and some inconsistencies, but overall it was pretty basic. Yuri |

I have a very old book that I got at a garage sale, it is very basic and helped me when I was just starting to try and discuss sailing because it had very detailed lables and pictures or many different types of boats. It is call "Sailing, where to start" it was printed in 1976 so it is pretty outdated about some things but on others it is great. |
