Post subject: | Season is over |
Hi all. I can see as the posts on these forums are slowing abit, but more so by the weather here in Coeur D Alene Id that the sailing season is drawing to a close very quickly. It has been a fantastic season for me as I estimate about 35 times on the water. I still have my boat on a local beach where I rent parking space but I will be putting it on the trailer this weekend and calling it quits for the winter. Heh I am still in denial and looking for any excuse to leave the boat for another sail, but when the sun has been shinging (temps 50's to low 60's) the wind gods have not been kind. I look forward to next season and know all of you do as well. Those of you who get get the year round action I am very jealous. but "it is what it is". I will of course reading the forums and waiting impatiently for March. |

Not to make you jealous, but I will be on the water this weekend with a forcast of 88 for the high and winds at 20 mph. Where you have sailed many times this summer, I have only been on the water a half dozen times. 2 of those trips out, the wind failed me. One time I had to paddle a half mile back to the ramp. ![]() |

Yeah, season is winding down here also. I still have two weekends. This one I am creating the Frankenboat, by adding an INter17 spin to my 5.2 and trying that out. But after next weekend I will be pulling the boat into the garage where the 14 already is and taking her all apart for a major refit over the winter. So even though my season is almost over I have alot to look forward to in fixing up both boats over the winter. |

I am jealous ET! With this season being the first for my boat I do not have much work to do on it. I will have a spinnaker on it next season, but that small project (except for paying for it) will be done when it gets back to the beach in March. All ready excited! |

The only reason my season is coming to an end right now is because my lake is losing all its water. At this rate in the drought the entire lake will be dry by Feb |

You are experiencing the same thing we did for the previous 2 or 3 years. This summer was a record setter for rainfall though. |

BLR, I feel ya. Our lakes are loosing their water pretty bad in NC as well, not to where they are un-sailable, but I've never seen them this low. Some of our counties have estimated a loss of their water supplies by the begining of the year. Ya'll midwest guys need to send it our way, we'll trade some of our unusually high temperatures we've been having to extend your seasons. |

Hey Speedawg I am going to Coeur-d-alene for a wedding in June of 08, I was there a couple of yrs ago and put my 16 on the beach on the school grounds where they rent a few waves. Is that were you are? I got a lot of flack from the guy that rents the waves, even though I had permission from the school security to put the boat there for a couple of days it was still a hassle. I would like a place to stick my cat for a couple of days while I am at the wedding. |

It is. That particular guy is no longer here, although he was actually a pretty good guy. Get intouch with me through this forum before you come and we can get together for some sailing. |

And I am pretty sure they wont mind if you keep your boat there for a couple of days. As I said above get in touch with me before you come and I will talk to the person in charge of that beach area for you. I am sure it will not be a problem. |

The season is pretty much over here on the Chesapeake too. After refitting our (new to us) H16, we took it out as much as possible for the first few weeks in September. Personal commitments and my crazy work schedule prevented any more than that. I'm definetly hooked though! Over the winter I plan to get a set of beach wheels, a motor set up to expand launch site options, and beef up the trailer with larger wheels, new rollers and a home made sail box. |

My heart goes out to all you die-hard sailor when I hear about you putting your boats up for the winter. I guess this is where my dedication is put to the test. If I had to put my boat up for the winter, I don't know if I would have one. I've seen photos of cats (H16s, specifically) in europe with ice on the booms, but at least the water isn't frozen solid. When I hear someone on the beach here in Long Beach, CA complaining about it being cold at 60 degrees and using that as a reason for not taking their boat out, I just want to give them one of my mother's backhands. There are a few die-hards here that just put on a thicker wetsuit and go for it. Most of my learning experiences happened during the winter months. After listenng to you guys, we have no reason to complain. |
