Dumb question -- I'm supposed to carry the boat registration with me... a 4x6 inch piece of paper. Do most people just keep these in their wallets (and the wallet in a little drybag)? Or are there any better ideas? Thanks. |

If you have a trampoline bag that you keep extra parts, lines, etc. that is on the boat with you, that is a perfect spot for it in a little ziploc bag. |

Or have it laminated, Kansas registration is good for three years. Dave, we're neighbors (well sort of), what model boat are you sailing? |

keep a copy in a zip lock on the boat. keep your origional in the trailer cat box or your tow viehicle . That way if the one on the baot gets destroyed the real one is readily available. in ca the reg is every two years. and laminating is a pain and even then they may get damaged. |

 Oooopppppssssss, I always keep mine in the glove box of my trailering vehicle, I think! Or it might be in my sail box?, or my safety deposit box? or my cereal box?!!!!!!!!!!! I don't recall the DMV saying that I needed to keep it with me!!!!!!!!!
AAAARRRRRRR.............................I guess I had better go find it!

Texas issues a card similar in size to a credit card, maybe a little larger I think. It states it must be kept on the boat when on the water. |

I'm with karl, Are you guys kidding? I'm sure it's probably what your supposed to do, but who would on a boat that is literally dunked in water everytime you sail. If you have a cop that's giving you a ticket for not carrying your registration on a cat then it's probably the least of your worries. (the dui arrest) That is when you reach into your dry bag and call your attorney. Mine stays in the glove box, that way if I need it, I can get it. Instead of telling an officer, it fell off the last time I flipped. Don't you guys have expiration stickers?

My boat never has been registered and I been debating on whether to ever register it. I really, really,really hate the Minnesota DNR. I bought a H16 brand new out of state. The state I purchased it in has a 6% sales tax, Mn has a 6.5% sales tax. The DNR wouldn't give me my title untill I payed them their .5% which in my opinion wasn't due to them any way. Ever since my attitude towards the MN-DNR has been more than slightly hostile when I encounter them. Minnesota also has the joy of have Sherrif's in boats also. I've never been harassed on the water with the catamaran, but plenty of times in power boats. I have been approached by the DNR/Sherrif's Dept. at the launch though. |

Yeah, I didn't ever register the 14, but they threatened to give me a ticket at the ramp one time because i had just been out on the 5.2 |

I can sympathize with you Karl - the Iowa DNR isn't much better. At least not around SL. I register my boat just to be on the safe side, but it also seems they are more concerned with pesky jet skis than the H 16. My dad did have an incident once, though, where they harassed him about a kayak he was trying before buying it. |

if your boats aren't legal it can be alot harder to get money out of an idiot power boater who hit your hobie. It's always their fault "gassers" just a heads up |

When we had one of our boats registered, we taped the registration card to the inside of the hull, just inside the port hole. It was probably in a ziplock bag. Obviously, you need portholes to do that though. sm |

I guess I'm lucky on this. As my boats sail mostly in the ocean off the SC coast I have never registered it or any of my Hobies. I did get some flack from the locals when sailing it in fresh water. I just hate the numbers and state stickers they want on my clean, beautiful hulls. I will purchase a beach parking sticker this year as that will afford me police protection for my boat when I'm away. I carry my trailer registration in the tow vehicle always but thats it. |

I've been dreading my next trip to the DMV. I have to: Change my license, (Just moved) get tabs for my pickup register my boat register my ski transfer the title and get tabs for my construction trailer. register my boat trailer. Which will be the worst because it is homebuilt. I have to pay the tax on all the supplies a 2nd time. Plus the registration is like $250, but that is a one time fee. ouch |
