Just make sure you put a cable from a strong pont on the motor to a strong point on the boat. That way if the bracket fails the motor won't be on the bottom of the lake or ocean, just wet.
That BTW is a real bummer and I heard of it happening.

I have a Cheata bracket welded instead of bolted to my H21SE rear cross bar and use a Honda 2hp 4 stroke on it. Engine has been good, easy start, 27 lbs, plenty power to go 6 kts. But... it is air cooled and noisy. I'd like to go to the watercooled, and therefore quieter, Tohatsu/Nissan 3.5 hp but it's 41 lbs. I know the bracket is rated at 30 lbs but that's bolted on. The extra weight is no problem for the big 21 hulls. Has anyone run a 3.5 on a Cheata? |

but I don't have a motor here. I'd be sticking it on a H 18 and was thinking of the older Merc 2.2, but isn't the newer 4 stroke. 25% over the recommended max seems like a lot to me. Dan |

That's why I have yet to but the 3.5 motor. I think the two weakpoints are the aluminum pin on the height adjust block and the bolt-on bracket where most of the levrage is. I eliminated the bolt-on so I think if I address the aluminum pin I might have it. |

Saw some divers in the harbor one day where we launch. That was it. I use a simple line with a quck clip, the motor only weighs 27 lbs. I will get a 41 lb. weight and try it on the mount on the trailer and see how it looks. I'm almost sure it will need some reinforcement but that will just give me the excuse to upgrade my welder to gas so I can do the aluminum. It would be much better to mount it on the front crossbar but I have a tramp up there now. How about a removable cross member at the stern to support the rear ofd the bracket? All it would have to do is take up the extra 14 lbs. Hell, then I could go to a 8 horse and make some serious headway. Aluminum would do the trick, light. Hmmmm. |

Remember to take into account stress fractures. That why most aluminum trailers are bolted eogether. |
