I think I finally found it. The "RV Cat"

Image

Sails not pictured. However, righting poles are. Stuck upright in the mud.

Seriously, the perfect fit for a family boat seems to be wings. Comfort for the crew. Put family off, take wings off and zoom.

Was all ready to look hard at the H16 with wings, but no go.

Wings are "void warranty" on H16 and Sitnsail, who make H16 wings, only sells them in 10 at a time.

So, an agile boat with wings? The Wave?

Oh, my. Still drooling for FX.

Thanks, Karl. You're killing me. I am crying on my keyboard. See the tears?

I note a thread over at catsailor about the decline of cat racing/sales.

mmiller, resident Hobie Tech, however says there that Hobie sales are still up, due in large part to sales of rotomolded models (I believe).

Makes sense because most people are apt to be recreational sailors now rather than racers. This is probably due in large part to advent of the blankity blank jet ski, the Harley of the water. Use to be only sailboating and windsurfing.

More people want a jet ski quick fix and complex racing boats are a pain to rig and use for them. Hey, this is the McDonald's generation, eh? Drive-through, fast-food recreational sailing.

Cuss it or meet it halfway, and meeting it halfway is what Hobie has done, I think.

Which is not to say that racing is dead, by any means. It just means that the path to stepping up to racing boats is going to have to go through rotomolded instead of starting with junior racing boats.

All to say, that what I look for is a "bridge boat". Something with some recreational, social fun to it and some pre-racing agility to it.

...and you posted a pic with wings. You monster.

You gotta do something other than drink when the wind doesn't cooperate.

Don't they make wings for the Getaway? Not exactly a performance machine, but might fit your recreational use... :)

If safe boating is practiced, then jet skis -- or any boat for that matter -- is fine.

Always check that rear view mirror though!
