I found a Holder 12' on the Austin Sailshop website. I don't know much about these boats, just wondering if you guys have anymore info. I looked around and couldn't find much information on them. Baisically I'm trying to find a small 1 person boat to fill a void while I save up for more of a party boat....I want something I can sail in the bay and surf(on good days). The Holder is in my price range, and I'm going to be near there this weekend. But I can't tell if it will fill my needs : / |

The Holder 12 (Hobie One 12) was my first boat - great boat. They updated some of the features over the years, but overall, it was a simple, easy handling boat. Similar to a Laser, but easier to sail and had some nicer features. More head clearance than a Laser. Spring-loaded kick up rudder. Nice size cockpit with enough room for two adults. The later versions also had a zipper luff mainsail with a halyard and a full-length head batten. Also the newer boom had an internal outhaul. Overall, a fun boat. sm |

Dog, thanks a ton man. That was some really good information. Just reading about some of the long trips that guy did makes me smile. A bit extreme for me...but it's a nice idea. Srm, thanks for your comments. It looks like a perfect starting/play boat. And that is what I'm after. With daggerboard down, it can sail in just over 2 feet of water, holds two adults. It looks like the perfect boat to hold me over. Going to have to make that drive to take a peak. |

sm Agreed that the 12 is a cool little boat. The 14 is good too. One thing. Those zipper luff mains are a PITA if they ever need repair. Brian C |

Boat sold just the other day : / Guess it wasn't supposed to happen. I'm going to have to start tearing apart want ads again. They have a 12' Escape for sale. New, for around 1800. Pivoting centerboard, holds around 4 people or so. The price is a bit steep considering I'm trying to get a cheap play boat. |

Thank you! I was reading up on them a bit too...and I was seeing similar reviews. I'm going to be up in Bandera this weekend, they have a Chrysler 13' for sale there. Going to look at it first, still will probably end up going to the Sailboat Shop to take a look around. |
