Its that time a year when everyone is starting to come in and replace their rigging. I tried to talk someone into replacing there anchor pins, they said they don't break and they cost a fortune! I let him leave w/o any as long as he promised to take a look at them for any visible cracks. This is what he brought back in when be bought his new anchor pins. The cracked part was beneath the hull and never would have been noticed it he hadn't taken it off to inspect.

That same part caused Steve Cooley to de-mast and get a DNF at the H18 Nationals this last year.

You saved that guy a huge amount of trouble! Good on ya Brad!
Anchor pins ARE part of the standing rigging.

Thanks to the outstanding safety boat and crew, the beach captain, and Matt Bounds generosity in allowing me to rob one off of his 16 that was sitting on the beach, I only missed one race.

As bad as it was, it could have been so much worse.

Rather than complaining about my misfortune, I wanted to take a minute and thank all the people that helped Sabrina and me that day.

So how do you all check them? Screw them out with a screwdriver or whatever through the hole? Is there a nut in the hull? sorry but I'm now to the 18 and want to check.

you just unscrew it from the top with a wrench. There is a nut in a channel under the hull lip that it threads in to.

Don't forget to check the loose nut at the end of the tiller... :P
