| Post subject: | Drills |
Every Friday night our local fleet will be conducting a skills developement night. One week would be capsizing, another would be practicing starts etc. Do any of you have any drills that you find effective, fun and/or helpful that we could use on a night like this? |

Hoibe Jr. did a GEP in Texas years ago where we practiced tacking about every 60 seconds. He would critique each boat and let us know how to be more efficient and faster. If you're not totally exhausted by the end of the 10 minute drill, you weren't trying hard enough. |

Herding is a great drill.Let sailors have turns leading a race and defending a lead.Just give the one boat a 5- 10 secound head start at the begining of the race. Another good drill is set up a starting line and have sailors put up there hand when they think they are on the line or conversily the start boat can blow a whistle when they are on the line. Nice individual drill for the start is have sailors set up where they think they are 10 secounds from the line and then harden up and see how long it takes. A variation of this drill is to have boats on the line and try to hold thier posistion for 1 min. Set up a windward leeward course and have sailors do it in two tacks and two jibes or four tacks and four jibes |

PARKING Set 4 buoys and make everyone stay inside them. Maybe for 60 sec on a H16 set it like 20'x20' |
