I have a small gash on a 1978 Hobie 16 near the bottom, amidships, on the outer float. About 3", probably not watertight.
Plan is to drill a few small holes above damage, and inject an ounce or two of Git Rot. Then cut away material on outer hull that is peeling. Sand to clean up area. Lay cloth (what weight? 8oz? one layer?). Cover with poly resin. Fill drill holes with Marine Tex? Do I need to cover repair with clear coat?
I am looking for as easy a fix as possible to get another 5 years out of the boat. Does not have to be pretty, just watertight and structurally sound.
Also have a few (approximately 1/8") circular chips, and cracks. Below water line. I think it's just the gel coat, but not sure? Maybe fill with Marine Tex?
Bottom repairs were done about 4 years ago by former owner. Ugly work, but it's been watertight. Looks like bondo, not sure?
I've done a bit of surfboard repair, but this will be my first go at boat repair. Any advice appreciated.
Also, What is a good product for cleaning the hulls? Is waxing recommended? Last year was first season hulls yellowed a bit.
How do I post pictures here? Pasted link below to Google+, where I have images.
