On occasion, when sailing solo, it would be helpful to have both hands free to grab a sandwich or untangle a line and have the boat would continue to point in the general direction with your hand off the steering handle for a short period.

Has anybody come up with an elegant "tiller tender" device for the Islands?

You will find that there is no "helm" pull on these. A normal sailboat will head up when the tiller is released. Not so with the TI/AI boats. You can let go for a bit and not worry about changing course. Both a good and bad issue IMHO.

I would like an "autopilot" for the tiller too. My 2009 AI will track for a bit hands free but it depends on the conditions. A couple of times I've had to "go for'ard" to adjust something and having the little tiller handle locked would be useful.

Thanks Stringy - there's nothing new under the sun, no? at least no new problems anyway. I will take a look at my tiller - boat is hanging on the wall in the garage since up here in Ottawa Canada we are a bit off season. Good time for set up tweaks including putting the bigger fins on the drive.
