Hello Hobie Sailors,

Does anyone know how to purchase a new Hobie 18, the Hobie Pearl in the US?

The boat looks amazing on paper, 18ft, 29ft mast, kick up center boards, furling gennaker.... hello beautiful!

I’m curious if anyone has sailed one of these?
What’s the top end speed?
Average cruising speed?
Where could we sail one?
How much does the Hobie Pearl cost?
Anything else we should know about this 18 foot hobie?

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Best,

ClamCounter

We don't distribute any of the Hobie Europe products. The only way would be to order one from a dealer in Europe and ship it.

Also, is it an updated Hobie 18 or a new clean sheet design? Are the parts interchangeable?

Is there a forum to discuss the "Euro" Hobie boats? As they currently have way more sailboats than US. I live neither in the US or EU, so both are considered "imports", and the Pearl seems like a great upgrade after my Getaway.

The Pearl is a completely different design from the classic Hobie 18. Parts would not be interchangeable.

It is essentially a “tuned down” version of the Hobie Tiger, based off of the Tiger hulls and platform, so probably some interchangeability with Tiger parts.

It would be great if Hobie added a "Hobie Europe" section in this forum, similar to "Foro en Español". To discuss their boats too, since their website links to this forum too.

It looks easier to sail than the Tiger because the centerboards kick up on the Pearl, unlike the Tigers daggerboards. Also, the Pearl has a spinnaker on a furling drum that’s easier to unfurl vs the Tiger’s spinnaker bag.

But the boat length, mast height and sail area are all listed the same as the Hobie Tiger, so it appears it would be a friendlier boat to sail with great performance.
