Makaha Beach, Oahu saw epic waves for the Braddah Mel’s Waterman Challenge. Hobie team riders Bullet Obra (Hawaii) and Phil Rajzman (Brazil) joined in the fun.

“The Mel Puu waterman challenge is hands down one of my favorite events of the year. It’s all about bringing friends and family together to showcase your best waterman skills in friendly competition,” Bullet said.

“Everybody can compete in lots of different categories. It was very exciting,” said Phil, who was there to film his Brazilian TV show Nine Feet for Canal OFF.

Bullet won the stand up paddleboard surfing division. “It was an achievement as I’ve finished second the past two years. I got a few great waves in every heat. My custom 7’4” Hobie SUP was working amazingly,” he said.

Phil scored a second podium, winning the longboard division on the same beach where he decided to become a professional surfer in 1997. “Four world champions were competing. The level was very high. It was good we had an opportunity to learn from each other,” said Phil.
