(Rantum/Eckernförde, may 2013) The Super Sail Tour started last weekend with the best catamaran sailors in Grömitz/Germany. The very high importance of that race in the calendar of famous Hobie scene quickly becomes clear if we look at the field of 47 catamarans from 4 nations. Many of the top teams are decorated with national and international titles. Impressive the performance of starting for the Sailing Club Kellenhusen Lauritz Bockelmann / Johanna Bredenkamp that came up with an perfect series. After 7 races in light winds and difficult conditions, the young team could discharge their worst rankings – 6 and 4 place! Followed by former senior Worldchampion Jens Goritz / Kathrin Wiese-Dohse and multiple European Champion Detlef Mohr / Karen Wichardt.
The youth competition was won by the Danish team Nicolaj Björnholt / Petra Jörs in the lead of his brother Daniel Bjornholt / Emilie Pedersen who sailed together in the past very successful.
The class of the Hobie 14 was once again dominated by Andreas Martens before Tanya Rindt and Erik Schwettscher. With only 6 points after 7 races Martens was at the end of five points ahead of second place.
The race committee of Grömitzer Yacht Club e.V. was not easy. Circulating winds and possible thunderstorm clouds the whole day, so was the Sunday and Monday characterized by weak winds and grey sky. The beautiful picture of 70 catamarans in the Baltic Sea was so colorful and cheerful.
The land program with two stages, lots of exciting live music and Jan Bastick the NDR 1 Welle Nord on stage offered the Super Sail Tour a great surrounding. “We could not expect a perfect weather again as 2012, but we are glad that we were able to sail our races,” said Jens Hannemann from ProSail of Sail Events. “Of course we have heard that there were many other regattas couldn’t finish this weekend around us. Grömitz just never let us down,” said Jens Hannemann.
Next stop of the amazing Super Sail Tour is Scharbeutz on the 5th of July.
