Over 240 entries for Hobie® 2017 Multiwords and Europeans and counting

As the northern hemisphere moves to warmer weather, Hobie racing focuses more of the attention to the warmer northern weather. There is still a lot of Hobie racing in the southern hemisphere but most of ‘bigger’ regattas will kick off in the north.

Without doubt the biggest event this year will be the Hobie 2017 Multiworlds and Europeans. Thank you to the sailors for making this largest Hobie event of 2017. Entries are still open and we are very close to having 250 entries from 6 continents, a great effort from the Hobie sailors around the world. We thank you. If you haven’t entered you can still come and join the fun. Not only will there be be some competitive sailing we have parties to socialize with all your friends.

The Hobie Wild Cat will have Mitch Booth back defending his World Championships with a new crew, Rita Booth. Peduzz Clement and Maxime Blondeau who were the runner up at the last Wild Cat world championship have entered and will be after revenge. As well as a string of sailors all trying to put their name on the World Championships trophy.

The Hobie 14 World Championship will have all three podium finishes from the previous Hobie 14 World Championships battling it out. Blaine Dodds will be out to defend his World Championships after being given a shake up in his home racing in South Africa by the younger South African sailors. Also Thorin Zeilmaker the 2003 Hobie 14 World Champion will be racing from his own sailing club. Will his local knowledge prevail? With nearly 60 entries this will be a very hot fleet.

The Hobie Dragoon Europeans will have Fay van Houwelingen / Mae van Noordennen team and Rex Caminada all from The Netherlands. These three sailors would have recently returned from Bermuda as part of the America’s Cup Endeavour Race. You will be able to follow their progress in Bermuda on the IHCA web site. Will the America’s Cup experience give them the edge?

The Hobie 16 European Open has attracted nearly 100 entries from around the world. Defending Hobie 16 World Champion Daniel Bjornholt from Denmark will defiantly have to work hard to win his first Hobie 16 Open Europeans. As there will be 5 of the top 10 at the last Hobie i6 Worlds will be racing at this year’s European Championships.

The Hobie 16 Master, Grand Master, Great Grand Master, Spinnaker, Youth Spinnaker, Women and Tiger all have some Hobie legends sailing. During the event we shall profile some of the sailors that have made the Hobie Class. Of course we will also introduce you to the new sailors in our Class.

The 2017 North American Hobie Mini Mega will be conducted at Sandy Hook Bay Catamaran Club in New Jersey. This is the home of Hobie Fleet 250. The dates remain the same August 2 – 12, 2017. The 2017 Hobie Mini-Mega North American Championships will consist of Hobie Waves, Hobie 14, Hobie 16 Youth, Hobie Women, Hobie 17, Hobie 18. More.

The Hobie 16 & 20 North American Championships is being held in Yankton South Dakota June 19-23. Please find additional information and a page for registration here. You can see who has entered and the entry list is growing.

South African Hobie Hobie 16 Championships will be held at Langebaan Yacht Club 27th September to the 3rd October. The sailors can enter via the website. Langebaan is a popular sailing site in South Africa hosting a Hobie 16, Tiger and Dragoon World Championships.

2017 Fiji Hobie Challenge & Oceania at Mana Island situated 32km West of Nadi and is on a 300 acre lush tropical paradise, amongst white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. The dates are 2-13 August 2017. Always a fun event that has challenging sailing while making races enjoyable. More details.

The BRASCAT will take place from 10 to 18 November in Porto Alegre / RS, and will be hosted by Clube dos Jangadeiros. The online registrations can also be made at the Brazilian Hobie Class website. After 10/31/2017, the registration fees will be increased.

The French Hobie National Championships will be held at Chatelaillon Plage, from the 3rd to 5th June. It is open to the Hobie 16, Hobie 14, Dragoon and Wild Cat. More information can be found at the French Hobie Class Association website.

US Sailing Alter Cup on Hobie 17: The iconic Hobie 17 was chosen by US Sailing for the Alter Cup.The perpetual trophy was presented and named the Alter Trophy in 1986 in honor of Hobie Alter, Sr. and his extraordinary promotion of one-design multihull sailing and racing programs. More.

2017 Mexican Hobie 16 Championships: Valle de Bravo, Estado de México, is a beautiful lake just two hour drive from Mexico City. You can get to Valle de Bravo, Estado de México by two options:

a) Fly to México City, and then get a bus directly to Valle de Bravo
b) Fly to Toluca, and get a bus directly to Valle de Bravo
