This article celebrates the creator and founder of Hobie, Hobart ‘Hobie’ Alter, born October 31st, 1933.
The quality and products that were developed by Hobie and continue to be developed by Hobie Cat, are ones that keep Nate and I active, adrenalized and healthy ALL year long! Our spirited adventures together, and with friends, are infinite. I always believe that we paddle towards a positive direction no matter where we are, or what we are up to. Excitedly, Nate and I first met while paddling, we had a festive, sunset wedding reception on our SUPs, we have made lifelong SUP friends, and continue to stay active because of this renowned and easy to learn sport!
This passage from the “About Us” section of the Hobie website sums it up perfectly:
“It seems incredible that one man’s vision could provide so much fun for watermen and women the world over, but in that department, Hobie Alter stood alone. He didn’t just create toys, he created a way of life, a new way of looking at our watery world. The dream born on the beach in 1950 has become reality not just for Hobie but for new generations of dreamers, all of whom continue to spell fun in the sun, the surf and the sand with a flying capital H.”
Year after year, our memories are of unique, golden, significant moments while enjoying the water- and that will continue for our lifetime. The flying ‘H’ to me means a healthy and happy existence, forever. We thank you, Hobie Alter!
