For transporting rods while on the way to and from the fishing grounds: http://youtu.be/WZQSxVt63os |

Nice idea, might be a good solution for rough surf landings too! |

i can see where you are heading with that set up, but my main concern would the reels copping a heap of saltwater...maybe set them up over the tramp with the reels sitting up rather than down.... |

Yes, being lower to the water they're going to get splashed. I'm fishing mostly freshwater so it's not as much of a concern for me. It wouldn't take much to devise a shield or something to channel water away or use the tramps and let them shield the reels that way. |

Tom, I'm going to try and adapt your idea for use on my Revo 13. photo from Hobiecat.com As shown in my crude diagram, I use the Hobie Sidekicks and the bow of the kayak to rest my push pole when I am casting in the flats. The thing projecting from the bow of the kayak is a piece of Starboard attached to my GearTracs. What I plan on doing adding 2 types of attachment points; one for the push pole and one for a rod and reel. The push pole holder will be some sort of U bracket so I can quietly grab it from the mount. The rod holder will be something similar to your Starboard holes. One of the challenges is that I rotate the Sidekicks for either standing or pedaling so there is no real fixed point. I welcome your (anyone's) input on this. |

I too would worry about the reels being thoroughly rinsed in saltwater. And, for sure, you would not want to come in any surf--sand would be forced into the inner workings of the reel. Since I have gotten into hakas, everything is simplified . I could wrap those reels in some protective plastic if I felt it was necessary. Keith |
