I bought this Hobie tandem on Craigslist last year and am now selling it because my Hobie iTrek 14 just arrived. Yay! This kayak is 14" long and approximately 34" wide. It has the Hobie decal in front and on the hull. It also has a "Mirage" decal on each side of the hull but is hard to see in the photos because they are very faded. My local dealer thinks it was a very early model and may have just been known as the Mirage at that time. I'd also like to know the year of manufacture if possible. I did send a note to Hobie as well but thought I would check with the Hobie forum brain trust as well. Thanks for any help you can provide.

See this thread for more info on that kayak:

To determine model year you will need to find the serial number:

Peter:
Thank you for that information. It was very helpful and I never would have found the serial number without knowing where to look. As it was, I had to find it using the Braille method. Then I had to shut off the overhead lights in my garage and use my bike light at an extreme side angle to get the engraving to pop. It truly is hand engraved! It looks like my serial number is CCM Y0606 E 000 which means, if I understand correctly, it is the 606th boat of model Y manufactured in the USA in May of 2000. Is that correct?

Looking at some of the other links you provided, it seems as if this is an early version of the Mirage Tandem as mine does not have the round hatches on the floor immediately in front of each seat. It just has a large round hatch in the front bulkhead and a smaller round hatch in the rear. Here's a link to the photo I took of the serial number. See if you read the numbers the same as me.

Yes, you have a 2000 model and the first version of the "Mirage Tandem" which was later upgraded and then eventually replaced with the Oasis. The Wayback Machine was a little rough back then but here is some info:
