I have a pair of Hobie trax carts that have served me well for 2 Islands for the last year or so. Thay have taken a beating and the grey balloon tires have been repaired a few times. I need to replace the tires and wondered if Hobie has a readily available heavy-duty tire using the same twist-n-lock used by the wheeleez wheels? I see stringy used this method: http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewt ... light=trax Was that pretty much the only way to adapt this cart? Also, am I correct in assuming that the part #80043 for the "heavy duty upgrade kit" for the standard card is a pair of tires and not just one? Are the rims plastic or steel and what about salt water use? TIA Yakaholic |

There is no wheel upgrade kit available for the Trax carts. The heavy duty upgrade was for the old Golf Cart wheel carts. You might be able to make it work if you can get the axel sleeve to fit and hold on the Trax frame. The upgrade kit is a pair / set of wheels. |

G'Day Yakaholic, The rims are all plastic with a brass valve stem and are great for saltwater. In the kit you get two wheels, two aluminium tube reducers that fit the 1/2" diameter trax axle and two stainless retaining clips designed to go through a hole in the axle (which I didn't use). An advantage of the Trax cart over the standard cart is the extra axle width which improves stability. The tyre quality is better with the Hobie wheels than the cheaper wheels I was using previously. So far they have shown little wear from the 8kms I put on them each week. |

G'Day Kep, Thanks for that site. It looks as if the Hobie heavyduty wheels are the WZ1-26PR found here: http://www.wheeleez.com/utilitywheels.php Hobie provide the 5/8" to 1/2" aluminium bushing so that it fits the 1/2" axle. Wish I could get these wheels here for $12! Cheapest plastic wheels of similar quality I could source downunder were nearly $40!
