Hello. I am thinking about purchasing a Mirage. Can anyone advise me on the possibility/sanity of taking along my medium-large dog? Would it be possible in a tandem?

Thanks alot,
Peggy

Your question would hinge on what you mean by medium/large and how your dog will react to riding on a small boat.

For example, I have seen big labs enjoying the ride on the rear rubber hatch of small narrow beam kayaks. The rubber has enough grip to allow the dogs to sit with reasonable stability. I have had dogs that would be a handful on a pontoon boat.

Take a look at either the sport or outback models. They both have large aft decks. Both are beamy boats that should survive a dog's sudden movement. The upper decks on the outback have been grained to add a non slip surface. The sport has a box shaped aft deck.

Will someone else be pedaling the tandem or will it be a place for the dog to sit?

My daughter sits behind her husband in my outback. They even sail with no problems. I don't think you would have trouble with a well behaived dog.
