I have a outback. It is great. We live on the water and it is very easy for me to slide it under the dock so it is out of the sun for storage. It is sandy there and is well protected. However, I read in the paperwork that it should not be stored on it's bottom as it could cause some distortion. Is this a serious problem? How important is it that I store it either on it's side or top?

Distortion can be caused by leaving a kayak on its "soft underbelly" for long periods. You can dent the bottom. The boat will naturally heal to one side and possibly cause uneven loads on the belly and, over time, cause it to invert "dent".

You can create a cradle that helps support the boat on the "shelves" on either side of the belly. Perhaps two boards lengthwise and slide the boat onto them so the belly is off the ground?

Thanks for the feedback. I have a couple of options for making a rack. I was just trying to be easy or probably lazy. I appreciate having a better understanding of what actually happens.
