My family got into kayaking about two years ago. I opted for a sik, my wife chose a Mirage. My fleet now consists of 3 Mirage, 1 Outback, 1 Tandem and a sik inside that hasn't seen the water in a while. My hats off to Hobie and the fine products they have. Our extended family is even buying Hobies now because of how much fun we have with them. Hobie can add another very satisfied family to their list of customers. Landslide |

We're running parallel lines here! We bought a SIK tandem, then progressed to a Mirage Tandem, next... a Quest, and now, maybe... ANOTHER Quest!! My poor ole' trailer is gonna have a workout. So, we have a fleet of 3 yaks, possibly 4. Not bad, considering it was Tracy, my wife who suggested that we should give kayaking a try, and I just went along with it all, thinking we'd do it a couple of times, sell it, and go back to watchin' the TV. Ha!!! I'm out as much as I can, love it. To add credence to the original post, yes, we like the Hobies. Well thought out craft indeed, and they suit us for what we need them for. Cheers Wolfie |

Thanks for the welcome Dick, I haven't had a chance to check the post since I joined. We've had the Yaks out quite a bit on the Great Salt Lake this winter and they are kicking butt. I took my Carolina out the other day, with my wife in her Mirage. You know how frustrating it is to get your butt kicked in a race by your wife who isn't even trying. I do have a question for you guys that are more seasoned than I am. I'm getting quite a bit of water in the hull of my Outback through my rudder line holes. Anyone have some advice? You shouldn't be getting much water thru the rudder line holes unless the stern is being submerged for fairly long periods while underway. Better check the drive well to see if you find any cracks. Another possibility is the yak being stored or transported cockpit up during rainstorms and the hatches or mast tube leaking around the seals. |
