I just bought this cart yesterday and was wondering if this is the way it is supposed to fit the bottom of my new Outback? Seems to me the little black collars should be seating more or less flat against the bottom over the scupper holes and not making contact with the sides of the rounded keel. What don't I understand about this? |

On an Outback the cart clamps contact on the inside and not the outside because of the shape of the hull. Some hulls have a flatter tri-hull design and they rest equally, but on the Outback it will be off to one side. We can't see the picture, but I'm sure it's like all other Outbacks. |

Okay, let's try this one more time. The first link was to a photo of my solution to the perceived problem. The link on this post is the original photo showing how the collars contact the sides of the keel instead of sitting flat on the bottom of the hull over the scupper hole. I just thought the action of the hard plastic collar against the keel might potentially cause some problems. I use roadrunner's tennis ball idea, but adjust collars so hull doesn't contact cart crossbar. Works fine for Oasis, AI & Revo, no hull distortion and ample support even when yak is loaded w/gear. I wouldn't recommend storing kayak on cart, just use for transport. |

Thanks for the good photo, Bob. The tennis ball idea appears to work really well. Guess I will head to my local SprawlMart and buy some. Do you cut a plug out of each end or just make an "X", or what? Wes |

Wes, That's Roadrunner's photo. I still think he should compile all his tips, pics and info and publish as a Hobie user manual to be included with every Hobie kayak! He's been that helpful! Anyway, I just cut an 'X' into opposite sides of the ball. Make sure the posts are still long enough to protrude through the top of the hull. |

Thank you Bob for the response. I bought some tennis balls this afternoon and gave them a try. They don't fit as nicely as shown in Roadrunner's photo, but I think they might work better than my pool noodles. Thank you Roadrunner, your tennis ball idea works for my Outback too. I second the idea of the Hobie user manual for folks who like to tweek their yaks. It would be a great help if we could look in one place for innovative ideas on how to do something and apparently Roadrunner has lots of good ideas. |
