Given the way the twist-n-stow rudder sits when stowed - would it be better to carry the kayak butt first on top of the car due to wind buffeting?

I have an Adventure kayak and a Volvo V40 with rails. That is exactly what I do, "butt first". But I have another reason for doing so. On the V40 that means that the twist-n-stow rudder is right over the engine cover and does not stick out ahead of the car. Therefore more protected under transportation. (I also transport the kayak upside down)

I never had any problems with the boat, bow first. Just make sure you put the rudder under the bungee. That rudder faces a lot of force sailing in dense water, so air, although fast moving, isn't going to cause any problems if it's bungee'd down.

I load mine bow first, but make sure the rudder is bungee'd. Never had a problem, hauled my yak all the way from IA to SC this way, round trip mileage was over 1900 miles not one problem.

I load mine bow first too, mine is a revo, and as mentioned before I just make sure the rudder is under the bungee cords. That thing ain't moving.

Amen to all of the above. I go bow first with the rudder tucked under the bungees.

I haul bow first but, was told by my dealer to only use one part of the bungee cord over the rudder because both will warp the rudder.

My TI came with the new rudder which is not twist and stow.
I understood that we should all upgrade on islands.
Unfortunately the new design rudder standing up, does not fit under my door in the garage. I simply remove the rudder pin and carefully lay the rudder down, facing forward. I secure with the one bungee and have travelled several hundred miles without a problem.
This is how I transport the TI -

The setup is assisted as sail sits on top of the rudder under that one bungee.

Adventure. Butt first, right ways up (in cradles); seat in place but folded down near flat (seat back bungee unhooked); gear stowed (incl mast, paddle, sail, fishing rods etc) inside boat; larger/heavier items stowed under the retaining bungees on the luggage shelf.
