Post subject:  eVolve 2 Throttle Cable Thru Hull Installation

My e2 motor kit arrived today. I will be using it in the drive well of my PA 14.
I am evaluating locations for mounting the throttle. I was wondering where others may have mounted theirs.

I would like to mount the throttle on the starboard side grab rail with a U-bolt attachment device. I have my Lowrance fishfinder mounted that way.

I am struggling now on where to mount the thru hull fitting for the throttle cable. Hobie owners manual gives good instructions for the thru hull fittings & cable and even gives cutaway drawing of what appears to be the horizontal surface thru which to run the throttle cable & fittings, but on a PA 14, there is no room around the grab rail horizontal surfaces to do this. I can move forward in front of the grab handle or behind the grab handle near the rod holder platform.

The starboard side mounting board is holding the H-bar legs & a RAM-ROD™ Light-Speed™ Rod Holder. There is no room to mount the throttle there & still be able to reach it without a stretch.I could mount the thru hull fitting on the vertical surface at the side or in back of the seat.

Can anybody share their experiences?

3 days gone by....no replies from anybody.

Either my question is confusing or nobody (who reads this forum) has any experience to share.

I will ask Hobie via owners forum.

I will say that Hobie's owners manual omits any consideratin of mounting the throttle on a PA 14.

$2K+ in their pocket & I need to figure out how to mount on a PA 14!

Maybe I need more patience.

On my revo and Ti I have mounted the throttle cable behind the mesh pocket on the vertical surface. That way when not in use is it neat and tidy and it is the ideal location for the throttle unit. For my reach.

Whether that works with the PA I don't know. But you need to sit in it and work out the most comfortable location for reaching it and of course mount on the side of your predominant hand. The boss for the throttle cable is so small that you could mount on a slight curve without any ill effects.

Yep just googled up a picture of one. In the mesh pocket is my advice.

Thank you Cc for the feedback & comments.
I have spent the day trial fitting & the vertical surface behind the mesh pocket or a little bit further aft (back side of the fishing pole handle support platform) are 2 of the 3 areas that meet the reach test. The 3rd area is just under the seat.
I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

Just a reminder that I do not read all forums. It's Winter (my slow time), so I have been able to get in here pretty often. We have a small staff that is tasked at providing forum support, but they too have other responsibilities. The forums are generally user based... not intended as 100% factory support.

As far as the "correct" installation location on a Pro Angler or other kayak model... there is no specific recommendation. There are a LOT of preferences, options and possibilities, so what throttle location is convenient for you? How long are the cables? What location in the hull provides easier installation access? All of this varies by model and the kayak user.

On a Pro Angler 12 on our showroom floor, the Fish Finder cable comes out of Lowrance-Ready thru-hull fitting under the mounting board... just below the mount location. That looks as though it would work perfectly for the throttle too.

So here is how I ended up mounting the Throttle thru the hull as well as mounting the throttle on the grab rail.
