Just purchased the self-inflating seat pad to replace or supplement the stock seat pad on my 2013 Outback. I'm trying to figure out how the seat pegs are disassembled. Does one have to remove the drive pins in the folding tab? I don't see how to attach the pad any other way. Its just not as simple as undoing the velcro straps and removing the pegs. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I can only speak to the installation on my 2011 Hobie Outback which has large split rings that run through the brass tube at the top of the seat pins. If your newer model has the same split rings then separate the ring with the blade of a flat screw driver and remove the rings by turning them out. Once they are removed the original seat pad can be removed and the inflatable pad can be inserted. I think the inflatable pad is ugly so I put it on the bottom, if you do this, use some thin rubber padding available at Office Max etc. and some duck tape to hold it in place over the brass vent grommets under the original seat. Failure to do this will result in the grommets wearing through the inflation bladder and resulting in its failure to hold air. Hope this helps.

Lameduck,

Unfortunately, my pegs are plastic and it looks like they are molded one piece with the exception of the folding locking tab. On the underside of the seat, the peg has what appears to be a one piece plastic washer that is captured with the peg (please see bottom photo). The folding tabs, which are twisted to lock the pegs in the peg hole, have a very small friction fit drive pin which appears to be the only removable part on the peg (please see upper top photo). Removing the drive pin would separate the the folding tab from the peg body and possibly allow the replacement or addition of the new pad. It is a very small diameter drive pin and I don't have a tool for that as it seems it would require a press of some type. ???

OK, just found a .pdf about seat peg replacement which shows new peg installation requiring the insertion of the press pin to complete the new style peg installation. Mystery solved and apologies for diverting your time for this Hobie newbie's questions. Love my Outback!

I'm a new Oasis owner & have the inflatable cushion also. I just velcro it in at this time as I cannot figure out how to take the pin out. Would you please point me to the pdf file you found?

I installed 2 on my oasis. Knocked out the metal dowel and installed the new seats. Getting the dowel back in was tough to line back up because of the thickness of both the original seat and the i-comfort seat seams and velcro. I am concerned that the plastic seat peg is going to break every time I install the seat. I do not leave my seat on because I store my kayak hanging from J hooks on the wooden fence on the side of the house under a tarp.
The seat works fantastic. No more having to shift my position to relieve sore spots on my ass.
