hello again,

we're getting ever-closer to taking our oasis down the MS river later this summer. although i have a way to get my boat from home (las vegas, NV) to the source (lake itasca, MN); the thing i'm lacking is how to get it from the end of the river (new orleans, LA -- more-or-less) back home.

so far i'm considering ...
leaving it in NO, flying back home and driving my trailer back out.

putting an ad up on craigslist and seeing what might be available.

listing it on one of the shipping bidding sites (e.g. uship).

renting a vehicle to get the boat back home.

digging deeper to find a shipper from LA to NV (my boat was $150 for UPS ground from washington DC to vegas ... that seems crazy cheap ... might've just been a deal associated with the dealer i bought from).
... but there may well be other ideas i'm over-looking.

roughly speaking, we should be finished sometime around the second week of october.

if anyone has any other idea (or an opinion on anything i've listed here, i'm all ears ... even if they are of the flavor of "well, i guess you could look into this..."

really, the only idea i'm not open to is selling my boat at the end. after everything we will have been through at that point, the last thing i'll want to do is get rid of it.

thanks in advance.

I have a buddy who has paddled down many rivers. Depending on the length of the trip, he has hitchhiked back to his tow vehicle (while other's stayed with the boats) to paying to have the tow vehicle shipped (via cargo ship) and stored until they arrived (20+ day trip down the Mackenzie River). He said it was kinda scaring watching his van steam by and out of site. However, his faith in mankind proved this to be a good move. Upon their arrival, the van was there. She was a little dirty, but other than that, everything was just as he left it.

Enjoy,
