the masts on my brandy new V2 drive are screwed on very tight. Before I spray and penetrating oil between the mast and brass insert, is there anything I am not doing right to remove them? I figure the flat spot on the shaft is for my wrench. Thanks! |

Yes, the flat if for a wrench. They are installed with Loc Tite, so if swapping out for Turbo length... use the Loc Tite when re-installing. |

Drum upgrade is not "required", but added stress from Turbo fins will stress the adjustment holes in the drum. Be sure the adjustment pin is fully seated. Avoid really stomping on the pedals. Possibly consider bolting the pedal in place if you know what setting you use and don't share the drive. |

Hi Matt, I tried to unscrew my fin mast from my TI's V2 drive. I sprayed RP7 into the brass insert but when I tried to unscrew the mast I found that instead of the mast coming loose, the brass insert started to rotate in the sprocket shaft. My drive is less than 2 years old. This was the second fin mast I was trying to remove. The first unscrewed as described in your maintenance instructions on this forum - albeit with some initial effort to overcome the loctite. I am now worried that this drive will fail when I am out at sea. What can be done about it? |

Contact your dealer to file a warranty claim for the sprocket. They likely used too much loc tite when assembled here at the factory. |

2014 (August) Mirage Oasis tandem. Same issue, the mast spins the brass, first mast came out fine.......Memorial day weekend is 3 days away........... we had a bunch of time on the water planned. That said should I take apart the entire Mirage drive? Boooooo QC Dept. |

Easy fix with a new sprocket or use what you have for the weekend. The Loc Tite does it's job a little too well, but bent masts and corrosion could also contribute to the issue. |

Thank you for the pic, that is very helpful. The brass spins when I turn the mast. I can not remove the stock mast. looks like I have to remove the sprocket. ;( |

2.815" Original mast fits snugly can remove by hand or re-seat by hand once you break loc-tight. 2.835" ST Turbo mast #1 wont start at all... 2.825" ST Turbo mast #2 starts but wont run in by hand like the original So normally a one hundredth of an inch does not matter even two hundredths , in horse shoes vs. hand grenades you have a couple of hundredths to play with and don't loose much. In ST Turbo masts and its sprocket those hundredths of an inch are a whole other ball of wax (or loc-tight.) So the mast being a weird shape not to mention I want to be on the water this weekend, I thought I would ask the right way to deal with this size in consistency. tap? Die? what size exactly? small pipe wrench and force it in crossing your fingers the threads line up? you tell me... : ) Between the spinning brass in the sprocket and this good job QC department.......good job.......
