Still havent recieved my hull-well retrofit kit yet, Have the Outback SUV purchased 7-22/06 hull # CCMF2927E606. Does this one qualify?

Hey Bluffer,
I think you may be out of the loop on this one since your boat is pretty new, and the problem was corrected before yours was made.

The serial number range for the Outbacks that were "possibly affected," according to Hobie are #CCMA3753 through CCMF2853.

The only other boat that was "possibly affected" was the BigA (Adventure) with serial numbers D0001 through D1875.

Thanks, maybe so.
Heck I wouldnt mind installing the kit anyway (added security) Run turbo fins, wont hurt to have the added srength there in my opinion.

That kit may not fit into a yak that doesn't need it. I know it won't fit into an '07 Outback. There's a lot more material up there than on the "problem" boats.

Look at the bottom of your boat. If there is a brass fitting (plugged with a small cap) just ahead of the drive well (under the forward ledge of the well), the boat is constructed with the current configuration. Looks like that one was made in May?... There may be some with wells built to the new standard, but with the older (shorter) bolts. Perhaps you can remove a cam bolt and check the length? The longer (current) bolts are 3 1/4" long and are tapered down to the tip.

Got with my dealer on it & we checked & mine has already been modified. Is the newer mold type. Retrofit kit wouldnt even fit in it.

Please will hobie or someone help me figure out if ccma8960f505 is a outback that needs the retrofit kit. I bought the yak from another person and would not have recieved a kit or a letter in the mail.

Yes... See any dealer. The kits are free.

All Outbacks and Adventures built up till late Spring 2006 are eligible for the kit. Models of those boats built after late spring have had changes to the molding process and longer bolts installed. Outbacks built before August 2003 may not need the longer bolts (depending on serial number... the hull shape was a little different prior), but could use the well reinforcement insert as an extra precaution.

Some inventory of models built earllier this year were retrofitted at Hobie Cat as well. A look inside the forward hatch will tell.

Look for this insert glued inside the hull just at the front of the drive well:

Matt Miller,

Thank you for your help with my yak. I was able to get a kit from a friend and was not sure if it was needed. Seems there is no chance that a 2005 model would not need the kit. I am getting a second outback that is also a 2005 model or that is what the seller told me. I will find out the ss# tomorrow and will be able to identify the year then. I am just wondering why one yak has the large lift hatch in the front and the other has the round hatch and bungee tie down. Did hobie make both styles in the same year?

The larger hatch is a more current boat. That would have been a model year change, but model year changes start production in July.

When you get your other boat, you can tell exactly when your hull was made by deciphering the serial number. In the example above:

CCMA = model = Outback
8906 = production sequence
F5 = build date = June 2005 (A - L = January - December)
05 = model year = 2005

Thank you all for the help. I have called Key Sailing at Pensacola Beach FL and they are going to get me the kit I need. Perhaps Hobie you could send them a few kits so I can fix the issue on the outback. They said Hobie has not shiped the kits. Perhaps they ran out before I called.
