I have a three year old Outback that i carry on a roof rack to my fishing spots. This spring on my way from PA to NC the front molded carrying handle fell of at 70 mph on the highway. Upon inspection, the screws holding the stainless padeyes worked loose and I lost the padeye also. Searched the internet and found an excellent dealer in Northern Virgiania to buy a new padeye and handle. Turns out the only padeye he stocks (ever) did not fit the embeded threads for the screws. The eyes of the padeye are too far apart. The dealer was stumped, he only has ever carried one size of padeye. My question is are there different sizes of padeyes for the different kayaks? I want to purchase a perfect fit OEM and not have to fabricate one.

thanks,

Jim

I have a 2010 and 2014 Hobie parts catalog.....both list the same part number for the metal pad eye as 71220001 and screw 8030071.
Did the pad eye have a P/N label on the bag?

Only one dimension of chrome eye we have ever used on kayaks... likely the dealers version is a generic part or an eye for another purpose.

No part number on the bag, it cam in a zip lock bag with the screws. The molded handle came in a sealed bag with the official Hobie original parts label fixed to the top. I am starting to believe that the pad eye was not a Hobie OEM part. It looks identical but not in a sealed Hobie package. And it definitely does not fit. I will order one from a dealer online and see if that fits. Thanks for the help.
