I've had 3 or 4 posts and poles for my gopro that I bought, none held up to the salt water. I ended up taking the nylon nut from one of them and attaching it to I think 1/2" PVC tubing then slipped that into the next size larger PVC so it telescopes. I then attached the universal swivel mount that came with the camera to the end. Worked like a champ and didn't corrode, but I unfortunately lost it a couple months ago in rough seas, I will likely make another one using the same design as it worked better than anything I had tried previously.
Hope this helps
Bob

I am getting ready to make one out of the "Palmetto Kayaking" book/link.

Walmart: $15 telescoping Targus camera mount- Its easy to add Ram mount ball /etc to it - retracts/light weight....
