The small cruise lines with a watersports platform (e.g.,
Windstar Cruises,
Un-Cruise Adventures, etc.) could have a couple of the Mirage Drive tandems in their on-ship fleet. Since the kayaks would be launching from the platforms into deep water, risk of damage to the boats would be minimized. The presence of these kayaks on particular cruise ships could be promoted as a feature of those particular cruises.
Back in Season 2 of MythBusters (2004), Jamie water-skied behind an 8-man shell (Stanford varsity crew). A video of the segment is viewable
here. I think it would be cool for Hobie to recreate this hack with Mirage kayaks. I'd bet that three kayaks tethered together would have sufficient power to pull a water-skier. Since the power is more consistent, Mirage water-skiing should be easier.
A YouTube video honoring the original MythBusters effort then showing the Hobie attempt could bring some great awareness to this new mechanism.
[I was googling for Mirage rentals and found this dormant thread. I'm a newbie on this forum.]
