We recently were lucky enough to be the first people in the DFW area to try out the brand new MirageDrive from Hobie.

Here's our thoughts on it. Enjoy!

Do you need to take your feet off pedals to flip the fins. That aspect in the vid looks a little clumsy,

Could you effectively use these as a brake. eg when passing over a fish mark when you are sounding up, to be able to stop quickly and back up would be handy rather than having to circle around and often loosing the mark.

No need to take your feet off the pedals to flip the fins into reverse...simply give the shifter a swift tug, and the fins reverse. Same idea shift back into forward motion. Yes, it works great for backing out of structure or stopping on a meter mark.

Howie - if you guys and gals at Hobie want to show how well these work backing out of structure, I would be more than happy to buy one early and make some video's for you. I find myself in need of reverse way to often! :)

Looks like the first mod will be two lines extended neatly routed to my seat left and right resting bars using a block. Qquestion is if it needs to be pulled at a certain angle. It will be perfect if it can be pulled flat on deck.

I can't wait to get my hands on a 180Drive, by next March I could be hanging outside a Hobie dealer with my basically new GT drive and some hundred dollar bills to try and make a deal with someone leaving with a new boat and 180 drive. "hey, hey buddy, I got a nice GT drive here with his friend 'Ben' and his brothers 'Ben' and 'Ben', you really sure you need that reversing feature?"...
